Red Sauce and Rocky Road

It ‘s hard to even blog about this one.  I’m not sure why we decided to go to East Boston.  We felt like some good old red sauce Italian and D’Parma’s is supposed to be good, gets solid reviews and we could make a reservation on Open Table.  I emphasize “supposed to be”.  Our friends are up for anything so into Boston and through the tunnel we went to East Boston.

It’s nothing to look at from the outside and that can be a good thing- sometimes.  There can be some good cooking going on inside, but not this time.  It’s a local place, very local.  And that’s pretty much where it ends.  Four of us at the table with four different entrees and all decided very mediocre.  I didn’t even finish my glass of wine.  As you know from reading my blog, it’s not always about the food but the total experience and it was a good night with our friends M&L.

There’s always room for dessert so after dinner I mentioned we should go to Spinelli’s.  I saw its big sign on the way to the restaurant.  But getting there from D’Parma’s was another story.  I’m not sure how we got lost but we ended up where the big gas tanks are located near Logan Airport and by the time we found our way to Spinelli’s, not only was it closed but it’s also not a sit down pastry shop.  So what do we do?  Go to Cabot’s in Newton, of course.  Always a favorite, Cabot’s is an old fashioned ice cream parlor that has been around since Roy was a kid.  It can be the middle of winter or a hot summer night, it’s always crowded.  Some Rocky Road with hot fudge and tons of marshmallow-I was a happy camper!

On another note, here I am on Sunday, April 15 sitting on my deck having breakfast.  When has that ever happened here in New England?  I like it.  Time to change the clothes, do a little yard work and throw the frisbee to Romeo!

It’s going to be a good summer; already on the books are some blog-worthy travels – Washington, DC; Martha’s Vineyard and Spain plus our spur of the moment summer road trips yet to be determined.  So stay tuned!

See you at the bar…..
