Do You Remember Saturday Gigs?

Ian Hunter does – Last night (Saturday) at the Paradise, Ian Hunter and the Rant Band came to play.  They didn’t come to mail it in.  They came to rock and did  just that playing in front of a packed house for almost two hours.

It’s really hard to believe.   Look at the picture – that’s a 73 year old man.  Throat a little more raspy but that’s about it.  I looked hard to see some ravages of time.  He still looks good, chewing gum, wearing those shades, curly hair, maybe a little thinner but not much. What is it with our generation?  Starting with the youngster Bruce Springsteen and following up with Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Ringo Starr.  I could go on and on.  They are still out there doing it.

The set list had a little for everyone – some songs from his new album “When I’m President” and some old, very old songs.  I have to say my favorite was Michael Picasso, his homage to great friend and collaborator, Mick Ronson who died from cancer many years ago. If you aren’t familiar with it, do yourself a favor and download it on iTunes.  It will break your heart.

The Rant Band – amazing.  A total of 6 New York musicians including his drummer of 40 years and Ian Hunter on the stage.

What were the encores?  Sweet Jane, All the Young Dudes, Saturday Gigs.  We won’t forget this show for a while.  My ears are still ringing this morning!
