Once Upon a Dream with The (not so young) Rascals

The Young Rascals or  later known as The Rascals were a group which was part of the soundtrack of our teenage years for those of us who grew up in the 60’s.  Remember Good Lovin, A Girl Like You, Beautiful Morning, Been Lonely Too Long?  I’m sure you know where you were when you heard those songs.

Well, Steven Van Zandt, yes Little Steven of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, had an idea about getting one of his favorite bands back together and you know if he is involved in something musically it’s probably going to be good.   He succeeded and put together a show that played Port Chester, NY and then went to Broadway.  This week they brought the show to the Opera House for a five night stand and of course we had to go.

I looked around and said to Roy “do we look this old?”  “These people were probably at Woodstock with us!”  Well, who else would go to a Rascals show but people from our generation.

Let me tell you it wasn’t just good, it was very good.  The band ranging in age from 67-70 (same as The Stones) played their hearts out.  For two hours, voices and musically strong, they were joined by 3 back-up singers and sang all their hits plus some.  It wasn’t just music but a multi-media show; individual interviews with them, how they met and their break-up, 60’s psychedelia, pictures of the band from way back, it was a hoot and made for a really enjoyable night.

Bands always say “thank you Boston” or we love you Boston” but when Felix Cavaliere said that they loved Boston and stood Boston Strong, he meant it.

Thank you Rascals for a great trip down memory lane, no matter how old we all are.  My question to you is, in about 45-50 years, will Justin Bieber be around for a show like we saw last night?  Doubt it!
