Christmas Weekend 2011

It’s been a busy holiday weekend spent with good friends and that always includes food and drink.

Friday night we were at Blue in Needham.  The night began with a Champagne toast followed by some good food; risotto with lobster, caesar salad, fried calamari, tuna tartare, a Bolognese, lobster mac and cheese and a burger were some of the dishes on our table. Oh yes, and an awesome brownie sundae and butterscotch pudding. Everyone enjoyed.  The restaurant’s a good neighborhood spot.

Saturday, Christmas Eve for the Jewish kids is always about a movie and Chinese.  We saw Angry Adult, a dark, sad movie with some funny moments, starring Charlize Theron playing a girl who has never left those glory days of high school.  After the movie we went to Chinese Mirch, probably the best restaurant in Framingham.  Mirch has a meaning of spicy Chinese food and Chinese Mirch’s food blends indian spices into Chinese cuisine.  The restaurant hits it out of the ball park.  It’s part Chinese, part Indian.  The dishes are unusual and the spices are different.  The food is spicy but you can tone down the heat meter.  A couple of us were on fire from some of the dishes.  We started with bhal, an Indian street food which was being prepared tableside for the people next to us.  Lucky for us because it’s not on the menu!  It’s a combination of puffed rice, crispy noodles, chilies and all mixed together – loved it!  Some other dishes on our table included Spicy Szechuan Lamb, Chicken Lollipops, Tibetan Momo’s, Shanghai Noodles,  and a couple of very different soups; all so good – I can’t wait to go back.

Sunday, the big day.  Christmas dinner at our good friends.  As good as any restaurant; a tenderloin prepared to perfection, Delmonico potatoes, winter salad, brussel sprouts and some broccoli rabe…oh ya, and lots of wine; dessert was a buffet of treats-so yummy.  Then we had a Yankee Swap and some laughs.  A little singing, dancing and trivia rounded out the night.

It’s all about family and friends (and Romeo!).  That what it comes down to – right?

This is my last blog for 2011.  I never thought I’d be blogging but here I am.  2012 promises to be full of adventure starting with Mexico in February.  There are lots of restaurants out there and 2 at the bar will be at them but in the meantime thanks for reading and stay tuned – I promise you won’t be disappointed!

See you at the bar…..
