Back at the Bar

I must admit, I’ve been preoccupied; haven’t been blogging our comings and going at 2 at the bar.  Why?  We put a new floor in our “trophy slab” or the “happy house” as my mother-in-law calls it.   Yup, from the outside it’s just another house on the street.  But inside, it’s got a floor from Italy.  And that’s not wood you’re looking at-it’s porcelain.  We first it spotted at Kika Tapas and tracked down the distributor.  We took a chance and the chance we took turned out to be a slam dunk.

But now I’m back and reporting on a good restaurant – Post 390.  It was just going to be a Saturday night a deux but Aunt J and Cousin L were going to a movie and we decided to join them for dinner.

Post 390.  On the first floor a bar with upscale tavern fare, a four sided open fireplace, a communal table, great artwork and  walk up the stairs to the second floor where tables are set far enough apart so you can’t hear the conversation next to you (which  as you know is important to me).

As we waited for the other half of our party, we sat at the bar.  The bartender told us about their “farm to post” menu.  Each month a local farm is chosen to be showcased.  One month it could be pork and the next month could be beef.  They also locally source fish and produce is local.  This month, the showcase is beef from a farm in western Massachusetts.  We had a great glass of wine from the Penedes region of Spain and shared some Island Creek Oysters, my favorite – meaty and briny.

After Jand L arrived, we were seated upstairs.  With windows looking out over Clarendon and Stuart Streets and a fire going in the fireplace, lights low, the ambiance was very warm.  We dug into the menu and decided to share some home made fries with parmesan to start-not a bad choice.  Our waiter overheard Roy say he forgot his glasses and he suddenly appeared with a pair of readers – when does that happen?

For dinner, one of the best swordfish entrees I’ver ever had with littleneck clams and homemade chorizo.  Roy had a free form lasagna made with assorted mushrooms, J had lobster schnitzel and L had the organic chicken.

Would we go back?  Yes, in a heartbeat!

See you at the bar….
